Girls from Burundi in Africa tell us how CARE's Ishaka project has economically and socially empowered them - unleashing the girl effect through education and training about sexual health and financial literacy. The girl effect is about leveraging the unique potential of adolescent girls to end poverty for themselves, their families, their communities, their countries and the world. Abatangamuco is a men's group in Burundi that is working with CARE to help end deep-rooted gender discrimination in their culture. Goretti Nyabenda - I am Powerful

Peace Clubs

A short film of Goretti Nyabenda from Burundi, Africa, who overcame domestic abuse and cultural oppression to become an empowered business owner and community counselor. She was featured in The New York Times Magazine, the book Half the Sky, and has won the 2010 CARE I Am Powerful award. A film of grassroots Peace Clubs in Burundi, committed to building peace and unity in a post-conflict context, supported by CARE Burundi and its partners.
